Great watch from Rob Pike of Google on the nature and evolution of today's "industrialized" languages, in particular C++ and Java. He calls it "institutionalized bureaucracy". Where the more verbose the code, and more you justify your syntax to the compiler, the better the code is and the more robust.
Once again, I highly recommend checking out this video. "If you have to foo that often, then somebody is not fooing right"
